TIME/SPACE
- EXCLUSIVE USE ROOMS 2001
This does
not apply to most of you, but I thought that it's about time I
addressed it for those of you to which it does apply. Please,
review the post on time space for clarification on figuring your
time. Many Providers short themselves on time.
Recently
a poster wanted to know how to figure Time/Space with exclusive
use of 35% of her house and T/S use of 90% of what's left. She
does not use her bedroom at all. She says she works 70 hours per
week.
I used
1000 sq ft for the house. The actual square footage doesn't matter
much.
The 35%
= 350 feet of exclusive use.
That leaves
650 sq ft used 90% = 585 sq feet.
585 sq
ft divided by total house = 58.5%
Time =
70 hrs x 52 weeks = 3640 divided by total year = 3640 / 8760 =
.4155 = 41.55%
So, .585
T/S use space x .4155 time = .2431 = 24.31% T/S use.
Therefore
35% exclusive use + 24.31% T/S use = .35 + .2431 = .5931 = 59.31%
Time/Space Percentage.
Now, if
that poster used 35% exclusively and all the rest on a T/S basis,
the calculation would look like this ~~

650 sq. Ft divided by the total house = 650 / 1000 = .65 = 65%
Time =
70 hrs x 52 weeks = 3640 divided by total year = 3640 / 8760 =
.4155 = 41.55%
So, .65
T/S use space x .4155 time = .27 = 27% T/S use
Therefore
35% exclusive use + 27% T/S use = .35 + .27 = .62 = 62% Time/Space
Percentage.
Please,
note that if the house was 100% T/S use, the Time/Space percentage
would be 41.55% (Space 100% x .4155 = .4155 = 41.55%). With 35%
exclusive use and 90% of what's left used by T/S, the Time/Space
percentage increases to 59.31%. When ALL rooms are used regularly
and 35% is exclusive use, the Time/Space percentage goes up to
62%! That's a big leap from 41.55%, isn't it? That would mean
that 62% of all your house expenses would be deductible. So, having
exclusive use rooms can markedly boost your Time/Space percentage!
