A reciprocal link is highly recommended. Reciprocation is not mandatory, however if you do not reciprocate then you run the risk of having your text link and description deleted in the future should a page become too cumbersome and require thinning OR become closed to free text links. We do not ask for reciprocal links for the purpose of gaining search engine rankings, for frankly we do just fine with the engines on our own, and the true usefulness of reciprocal linking is not proven.
